WWE comes to Cleveland, Ohio on Sunday and I am not real sure that this pay per view is even necessary. It has the feel of a filler show with a mediocre card. The good news is, usually when I am not expecting much the WWE finds a way to surprise me. Hopefully that will be the case Sunday as we get the last pay per view before WrestleMania.
There are eight matches scheduled for Fastlane including Rey Mysterio vs Andrade in the kickoff show. I hope this match gets quite a bit of time, because these two always put on great matches. The night will also mark the return to the ring for Roman Reigns and Kevin Owens, but I think all eyes will be on the Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair match.
All of WWE’s tag team titles will be on the line as well as the Smackdown women’s championship and the WWE championship. Unfortunately I am having a hard time getting excited about the pay per view, but maybe, just maybe the WWE has something up their sleeve. I have looked at the card and considered the direction of the storylines. The following are my predictions for WWE Fastlane.
Rey Mysterio vs Andrade
As I have mentioned, I really like this match up and I think, if given enough time, they will put on another five-star match. Rumor has it that Mysterio and Andrade are being considered for some type of faction. I think a win by Andrade and a show of respect from Mysterio would certainly signify a step in that direction. I am not sure what else these two could show us? So I am calling for an Andrade win and Mysterio to offer a hand shake.
GoHomePWB.com pick: Andrade
RAW Tag Team Championship Match
RAW tag team champions The Revival will put their titles on the line in a triple threat tag team match against the teams of Bobby Roode and Chad Gable and Ricochet and Aleister Black. I can tell you there is no way Ricochet or Black take the loss in this match and I really don’t think The Revival lose their titles.
With that said, I think these six men could put on a really good match. The night The Revival won the title’s, was one of the best tag team matches on RAW in years. The Revival and Roode and Gable have shown that they work well in the ring together, and with the addition of Ricochet and Blacks impressive move set, I think this could be a show stealer.
In typical tag team mayhem I think there will be chaos towards the end of the match and The Revival will catch either Roode or Gable in the Shatter Machine to retain the RAW tag team titles. I look for The Revival to then focus only on Ricochet and Black for most likely a kickoff show title match at WrestleMania.
GoHomePWB.com pick: The Revival
Smackdown Women’s Championship Match
The rising star that is Mandy Rose will take on ‘The Empress of Tomorrow’ Asuka for the Smackdown women’s championship. This match has me thinking a little bit because the WWE is very high on Mandy Rose and they seem to keep Asuka out of headlines. With that said, I think Asuka wins, but not easily.
The future is bright for Mandy Rose, but I don’t think she is women’s champion material just yet. I would rather see Rose and Deville challenge for the women’s tag team championship and build Rose a little more before putting the women’s championship on her. As for Asuka, lets hope she gets going again and has a credible opponent for WrestleMania.
GoHomePWB.com pick: Asuka
The Shield vs Baron Corbin, Bobbly Lashley and Drew McIntyre
Not only is Roman Reigns back, The Shield is back! This match is being billed as the last ever match for The Shield. I am skeptical, but all signs point to Amborse still leaving in April. As for this match, I think The Shield wins probably with Roman Reigns picking up the win after a superman punch and spear.
However, I think we are in for some after match shenanigans. I wouldn’t be totally surprised if Brock Lesnar showed up or if Ambrose attacks Reigns to set up a WrestleMania match. Nonetheless, The Shield in their ‘last match ever’ will get the win over Corbin, Lashley and McIntyre.
GoHomePWB.com pick: The Shield
Smackdown Tag Team Championship Match
The six-time and current tag team champions The Uso’s, will take on The Miz and Shane McMahon in a re-match for the Smackdown tag team championship. I am not sure what the story is between The Miz and Shane, but I think the team blows up Sunday at Fastlane.
I think we will see all the classics from Shane including a coast to coast and a table bump. I think the match will be really, really good, but I think the Uso’s win and The Miz and McMahon end their run as a tag team. I think The Miz returns to his heel persona and beats up McMahon leading to a WrestleMania show down.
GoHomePWB.com pick: The Uso’s
Becky Lynch vs Charlotte Flair
In what is basically a fore drawn conclusion Becky Lynch will take on Charlotte Flair. If Becky wins she will be added to the RAW women’s championship match at WrestleMania, if she looses, she is out. I believe that if the WWE universe doesn’t get Becky Lynch and Ronda Rousey in a match at WrestleMania, they will riot.
I look for Ronda Rousey to get involved during this match, but I think it will be to the benefit of Lynch. Rousey wants to fight Lynch and I would rather see Lynch vs Rousey one on one, but that is not in the cards. As for Fastlane look for Becky to find a way to win and be added to the championship match at WrestleMania.
GoHomePWB.com pick: Becky Lynch
Women’s Tag Team Championship Match
The first ever WWE women’s tag team champions Bayley and Sasha Banks, known as the team of The Boss N Hug Connection, will battle Nia Jax and Tamina at Fastlane on Sunday. I am having a hard time getting into the Women’s tag team championship if I am being honest. I don’t think there are enough legit women tag teams to warrant a championship.
Be that as it may, I look for Sasha and Bayley to retain the championships over Tamina and Jax. It will be a decent match, but one that is insignificant in my opinion. Lets hope that after this match Bayley and Sasha get a legitimate women’s tag team like, Sonya Deville and Mandy Rose or the IIconics to defend those titles against.
GoHomePWB.com pick: The Boss N Hug Connection
WWE Championship Match
The returning Kevin Owens will take on Daniel Bryan for the WWE championship at Fastlane. Kevin Owens is the replacement of Kofi Kingston in the match, appointed by Mr. McMahon. Owen’s has come back to the WWE as a baby face, but being placed in the match instead of Kofi, certainly did him no favors with the WWE universe.
I believe the New Day, more specifically Kofi Kingston will get involved in the match at Fastlane in some fashion. I don’t think Owens wins, but I think he puts on a good match and lands a couple of Stone Cold stunners. I think we are possibly headed toward a triple threat WWE title match at WrestleMania between Owens, Bryan and Kofi.
If it doesn’t end in some type of smoz, Bryan will win, but not clean. I think the match breaks down, with a may lay between Rowan and the New Day distracting Owens, and Bryan hits the running knee for the win.
GoHomePWB.com pick: Daniel Bryan
Fastlane feels like a filler pay per view. If it were me I would only have one pay per view between the Royal Rumble and WrestleMania. You could build storylines and have better ratings for RAW and Smackdown. But I get it, two pay per views will add revenue. Hopefully Fastlane is easier on the eyes than the card is.
