WWE March Madness (Sweet Sixteen)

img_5447

I cut sixteen in half today as I move forward with the GoHomePWB.com WWE March madness tournament.  A great line up of matches today that will probably lead to an argument or two, but remember this is all in good fun.  Enough disclaimers, let’s get into the great match ups on tap today.  We start off with a big one.

Becky Lynch vs John Cena

I knew at some point, even a coin flip would have a hard time decided who to pick.  This match up is very tough to choose.  Becky Lynch is arguably the most popular wrestler in the WWE right now, but she has the unenviable task of taking on John Cena.  Becky Lynch is no John Cena, and even though he’s not on tv full-time anymore, I still like Cena to pick up the win in this match up.

Samoa Joe vs AJ Styles

This is a match up most wrestling fans are familiar with.  They had a long-standing rivalry in TNA, and even revived it for the last six months of 2018 in WWE.  In the WWE AJ Styles was able to get the better of Samoa Joe and I think if it came down to one more match… Styles would win again.  AJ Styles will now meet John Cena in the elite eight.

Andrade vs Drew McIntyre

I would love to see this match up.  In NXT it was Andrade that beat Drew McIntyre for the NXT title, but on the main roster, Drew McIntyre is an absolute beast.  I think if these two were to meet on the main roster McIntyre would win and put a stop to Andrade’s incredible run in this tournament.

Kofi Kingston vs Braun Strowman

I am struggling with this one, I think Kofi Kingston is as hot as he has ever been in his career, and Braun Strowman is far from where he was this time last year.  I think it would be a great match and I think there would be a lot of false finishes, but I think Kofi dodges a running tackle and Strowman crashes hard, leading to him losing via count out and propelling Kofi into the elite eight.

Charlotte vs Bobby Lashley

On paper this match up looks pretty good, but I think Lashley’s run in this tournament is over.  Both of his previous matches he won with help from Lio Rush.  Rush would probably try to get involved again, but Charlotte would be to wise for it.  I like Charlotte in this one.

Finn Balor vs Ronda Rousey

Things are now getting a little tougher for Rousey in this tournament.  Finn Balor can absolutely bring it in the ring, especially if he is in the ‘Demon’ character.  Unfortunately for Balor, he didn’t bring that persona to the ring for this match and Rousey gets the better of him.  Rousey wins setting up a meeting with Charlotte in the elite eight.

Roman Reigns vs Randy Orton

A great match up here, between two future WWE hall of famers.  I think this would be a great match, but I think I will have to go with Randy Orton for the win.  Only because he is as good now, if not better, than he has ever been.  Roman Reigns has only been back for about a month after his illness and has yet to really get in the groove of things.  For that reason I like Orton.

Seth Rollins vs Daniel Bryan

“Holy Cow!”  I said that out loud in my best Harry Carey voice. (Old baseball reference)  This match would be great to see, and I think the only thing that would make it better would be if it were a cage match.  Since it’s not, I think Rowan gets involved and ruins a great contest.  The distraction from Rowan allows Bryan to win with a surprise inside cradle pin.

And then there were eight.  On Thursday the GoHomePWB.com WWE March madness will conclude as I crown the first ever GoHomePWB.com March madness tournament champion.  Thanks for following the tournament and as always thanks for checking out GoHomePWB.com, the people’s wrestling blog!
