Weekly Top Ten and Review

A little late this week, due to not feeling so great and a really busy schedule. But as they say in wrestling, the show must go on. I will keep it quick this week and give the top ten, but would like to give my thoughts on RAW and the ratings and how AEW may actually improve them. But first let’s get to that top ten.

10. Becky Lynch (14)

9. Roman Reigns (2)

8. Drew McIntyre (12)

7. Dolph Ziggler (5)

6. Seth Rollins (10)

5. Cesaro (2)

4. Ali (2)

3. The Revival (7)

2. Kofi Kingston (11)

1. Bayley (2)

A Few Thoughts

I feel like it was a decent week for the WWE. Money in the Bank was good, with a few surprises. I loved the Bayley cash in, but didn’t care much for the Brock Lesnar win. But I appreciate the surprise. For me the announcement of a new championship from Mick Foley.

24/7 Championship

I like the concept, and again I appreciate the attempt from WWE to spice things up a bit. I feel like Foley’s delivery and announcement of the title fell flat, because everyone, including myself, thought they were bringing back the hardcore championship. Basically, that’s what they did, but they “PG era’d” it. It’s still entertaining to see everyone going for the championship. R-Truth is a good place holder for the time being. Although not the hardcore title, it’s certainly a step in the right direction.

RAW is Struggling

Although ratings were up this week, they pale in comparison to RAW of the past. Three hours is too much, and if they went to two they would see better ratings. They need to spend more time developing characters. Most of the wrestlers are just guys or gals with a personality trait, but no one is really a character anymore, with Bray Wyatt and Elias being the exception.

Develop characters like they used to in the attitude era. For instance you had The Undertaker, that one speaks for itself, The Rock, an arrogant trash talker who referred to himself in the third person. Stone Cold Steve Austin, a foul mouth, beer drinking redneck who defied authority. Val Venis was a porn star, Godfather a pimp, Gangrel a vampire, Mark Henry an oversized ladies man, The Dudley Boyz were make believe brothers from Dudleyville, The Hardy Boyz were fearless daredevils and Ken Shamrock an angry fighter from UFC.

Now let’s talk about today’s stars, Kofi Kingston, is the current WWE champion and he’s just a guy that’s been around for awhile and has earned it. Seth Rollins, a guy from Iowa? The beast slayer or the king slayer? And what does burn it down actually mean? What is he burning down? Finn Balor is just a guy with a great physique and smile. He does have he Demon alter ego, but it’s rarely used and when it is, it’s at the weirdest time and with little build. Samoa Joe, Drew McIntyre, Roman Reigns, Braun Strowman, Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch, Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn. They are just guys and gals who wrestle, but tell me what their character is?

I could go on and on about the need for character growth but that’s enough for today. A big weekend ahead for AEW, anyone else going to be watching Double or Nothing? I think it will be nice to get the WWE alternative. Sometime before the pay per view I will get my predictions in. I apologize for the sporadic schedule, but I just haven’t had the time to blog as much as I would like.

As always thanks for checking out GoHomePWB.com, the people’s wrestling blog!
