WWE Stomping Grounds Results

WWE’s first ever Stomping Grounds pay per view took place from Tacoma, Washington. I took a few upset picks that didn’t exactly go my way, but it was a very entertaining pay per view in my opinion. Let’s take a look at the matches and see just how my picks went.

Cruiserweight Championship Match

Akira Tozawa, Grew Gulak and current cruiserweight champion Tony Nese all did battle for the purple title. This was an incredible match that honestly was better than a kickoff show match. I had a feeling that a title change was in order in this one, and sure enough Drew Gulak picked up the win and his first cruiserweight championship.

Ryan’s Pick: Drew Gulak Winner: Drew Gulak (Overall PPV prediction record 84-42)

RAW Women’s Championship Match

In a little bit of a surprise Becky Lynch kicked off the actual Stomping Grounds pay per view, putting her title on the line against the “Sassy southern belle” Lacey Evans. I had a feeling that Lacey Evans would win, but that was not the case as Becky was able to make her tap out via the dis-arm her finisher.

Ryan’s Pick: Lacey Evans Winner: Becky Lynch (Overall PPV prediction record 84-43)

Sami Zayn & Kevin Owens versus Big E & Xavier Woods

A match that was added to the card after Smackdown Live last week, best friends Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn teamed up against New Day members Big E and Xavier Woods. I had low expectations for this match, but this was an absolutely incredible match that may have stolen the show. In the end Owens and Zayn picked up the hard fought win.

Ryan’s Pick: Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn Winner: Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn (Overall PPV prediction record 85-43)

United States Championship Match

Ricochet won a fatal five way match Monday night to earn the opportunity for a United States championship match. But the unenviable task of wrestling Samoa Joe was the challenge. A great match that actually followed the Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens win. In what was a bit of a surprise, Ricochet found a way to win and became the new United States champion.

Ryan’s Pick: Samoa Joe Winner: Ricochet (Overall PPV prediction record 85-44)

Smackdown Tag Team Title Match

Otis and Tucker of Heavy Machinery took on the Smackdown tag team champions Daniel Bryan and Rowan. The match was decent, but kind of weird because the crowd was firmly behind the home town guy, Daniel Bryan. After somewhat of a lengthy match Bryan was able to roll up Tucker and pick up the win for his team.

Ryan’s Pick: Daniel Bryan and Rowan Winners: Daniel Bryan and Rowan (Overall PPV prediction record 86-44)

Smackdown Women’s Championship Match

Alexa Bliss with Nikki Cross in her corner took on the reigning Smackdown women’s champion, Bayley. The match was pretty good, but had some strange spots. In the end it was Bayley that was able to retain after she reversed Twisted Bliss by putting up her knees. She then hit Alexa Bliss with a Bayley to belly for the win.

Ryan’s Pick: Bayley Winner: Bayley (Overall PPV prediction record 87-44)

Roman Reigns versus Drew McIntyre

Roman Reigns continued feud with Drew McIntyre continued at Stomping Grounds. This was a brutal match, but in a good way. Shane McMahon got involved several times, but it didn’t matter. In the end Roman Reigns was able to defeat Drew McIntyre and hopefully this rivalry is over with.

Ryan’s Pick: Drew McIntyre Winner: Roman Reigns (Overall PPV prediction record 87-45)

WWE Championship Match

Dolph Ziggler challenged Kofi Kingston for the WWE championship inside the confines of a steel cage. A great cage match that ended in typical Ziggler style … a loss. My hopes were high for Ziggler but it was not to be as Kofi jumped through the ropes and the cage door for the win.

Ryan’s Pick: Dolph Ziggler Winner: Kofi Kingston (Overall PPV prediction record 87-46)

Universal Championship Match

The special guest referee was the build for this match as Universal champion Seth Rollins took on Baron Corbin for the championship. The special referee was Becky Lynch’s rival Lacey Evans. Becky Lynch and Seth Rollins are in a romantic relationship and that’s why her being the ref was significant.

After Lacey Evans bent every rule in the book to try to help Baron Corbin, Becky Lynch had finally had enough and came out to help Rollins. She beat up Lacey Evans and a regular referee entered the ring. After a curb stomp from Rollins he was able to beat Corbin and retain his championship.

Ryan’s Pick: Seth Rollins Winner: Seth Rollins (Overall PPV prediction record 88-46)

A pretty good pay per view that had a happy ending with the newly crowned “power couple” Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch leaving together as champions. It was a good start to the summer, minus Ziggler winning the WWE championship, but it made for some interesting storylines, nonetheless.
