A big weekend for WWE fans this Saturday and Sunday, especially if your Canadian. For the first time in a long time a major WWE pay per view is taking place in Toronto and I have a feeling the canadian wreslters on the card will have a great night. My pay per view prediction record stands at 96-50 and I don’t see any reason why I won’t hit triple digits on correct picks after this weekend. There are alot of matches to look at so lets jump into it.
Candace LeRae vs Io Shirai
In what is being billed as a grudge match, former friends Candace LeRae and Io Shirai will do battle. Io Shirai is out of the NXT women’s title picture for the first time in a long time after several failed attempts to capture it from Shayna Baszler. She now directs her attention to LeRae and looks to take out her frustrations on her. I think Shirai’s frustrations will get the better of her and LaRae out smarts her for a surprise win.
Ryan’s Pick: Candace LeRae
NXT Tag Team Championship Match
Current NXT tag team champions The Street Profits put their titles on the line against Bobby Fish and Kyle O’Reilly of the Undisputed Era. I have a feeling it’s going to be a big night for the Undisputed Era, and with The Street Profits seemingly making a transition to the main roster, it makes sense for Fish and O’Reilly to regain the championships. And that is my prediction for this match.
Ryan’s Pick: Kyle O’Reilly and Bobby Fish
NXT North American Championship Match
I feel like this match will steal the show Saturday night, when current North American champion Velveteen Dream puts the title on the line in a triple threat match. His opponets are Pette Dunne and Undisputed Era member Roderick Strong. I honestly like all three of these guys and I have a feeling we are in for a treat with this one. I mentioned before it will be a big night for the Undisputed Era, I look for Roderick Strong to pick up the win.
Ryan’s Pick: Roderick Strong
NXT Women’s Championship Match
Current NXT women’s champion Shayna Baszler has had a strangle hold on the title for a very long time. She puts the title on the line tomorrow night against Mia Yim. I think Yim has quite a bit to prove yet, but I think she will give Baszler a run for her money. Personally, I think it’s a little too soon for Mia Yim to be champion, but give her a little more time. Baszler wins and retains in this one.
Ryan’s Pick: Shayna Baszler
NXT Championship Match
In a re match for the NXT championship, current champion Adam Cole “Bay Bay” puts the title on the line against Johnny Gargano in a two out of three falls match. These guys tore the house down at the last TakeOver event when Adam Cole won the championship from Gargano. I think this will most certainly go three falls, but I think we see an old friend/rival of Gargano show up in Tommaso Ciampa. I look for Ciampa to cost Gargano his chance to win the title and re new one of the hottest rivalries in NXT history. Adam Cole will win and retain completing the championship sweep for the Undisputed Era.
Ryan’s Pick: Adam Cole
Summerslam will take place the following night on Sunday and I am somewhat excited about this card. Legends like Trish Stratus and Goldberg will compete, Lesnar will defend the Universal title and Kofi Kingston and Randy Orton will renew a rivalry from a decade ago. I only wish that a tag team title match was on the card, but that could be a possibility by the time Summerslam arrives. There is a long list of matches to look at, so let’s get to it.
Cruiserweight Championship Match
Current champion Drew Gulak puts the title on the line agains Oney Larcan in what will most likely be a kick off match. The cruiserweights rarely disappoint during the kickoff and I don’t anticipate this one being any different. I don’t foresee a title change in this one and predict Drew Gulak to win and retain.
Ryan’s Pick: Drew Gulak
Smackdown Women’s Championship Match
Current champion Bayley will put her title on the line against the up and coming Ember Moon. Ember probably has my favorite move set of any woman on the roster, her “eclipse” finisher looks brutal and painful for her opponents. The only problem is she won’t connect with it in this match as I look for Bayley to win the match.
Ryan’s Pick: Bayley
Bray Wyatt versus Finn Balor
I really don’t need to go into length about who will win this one, as we all know that Bray Wyatt is going to win without question. What I would like to see if for Finn Balor to take a little break and come back as a heel, and possible join The O.C. I am excited for this match as I have been waiting to see Wyatt in action ever since his return earlier this year.
Ryan’s Pick: Bray Wyatt
United States Championship Match
Current champion AJ Styles will put his title on the line against the Ricochet. I look for this one to steal the show. Both men are incredible in the ring and I really think Ricochet will find a way to win Sunday night. Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson may get involved, but I think Ricochet outsmarts them and is able to upset Styles and regain the championship.
Ryan’s Pick: Ricochet
Kevin Owens versus Shane McMahon
I think everyone believes that Kevin Owens will win this match. The stipulation is that if Owen’s loses he must quit WWE. For that reason and the fact that Shane McMahon got the better of Owens the last time they were on TV, all signs point to an Owens victory. BUT… I would like to see a “Toronto Screw Job”.
What I mean by that is, Kevin Owens is a Canadian star that is loved by his home country. The McMahon’s, Vince in particular, is not loved by the Canadian fans due to the “Montreal Screw Job” over twenty years ago. If they choose to go this path, they have set up a years worth of story lines. I am banking on something like this happening and predict an upset that Shane McMahon will win.
Ryan’s Pick: Shane McMahon
RAW Women’s Championship Match
RAW women’s champion Becky Lynch puts the title on the line against Natalya and again, it’s taking place in Canada. WWE made it a point to get their Canadian stars on the card and honestly, Natalya has looked great in the ring in recent weeks. It would be a great moment if Natalya could find a way to win, I am skeptical but I think she can. I am calling for Natalya to win the RAW women’s championship.
Ryan’s Pick: Natalya
Goldberg versus Dolph Ziggler
Goldberg is looking to rebound after his abysmal outing against the Undertaker at Crowned Jewel. Who better to put him in the ring with than future Hall of Famer, Dolph Ziggler. Ziggler can make about anyone look good in the ring and I am sure Goldberg would appreciate it. No way Ziggler wins, but I have a sneaking suspicion that him doing the job for Goldberg will lead to some great opportunities for Ziggler in the coming months.
Ryan’s Pick: Goldberg
WWE Championship Match
Kofi Kingston will put his title on the line against “The Viper” Randy Orton, renewing a rivalry from a decade ago. I think this will be a good match, but I have heard that Orton is not in the best of conditions health wise. Believing that to be true, I look for Kofi to win and retain the title in a good match.
Ryan’s Pick: Kofi Kingston
Trish Stratus versus Charlotte Flair
The best during the attitude era versus the best of the evolution era. I am looking forward to this one as Trish Stratus comes out of retirement to take on “The Queen” Charlotte Flair. I think win or lose Trish Stratus will get a great ovation from the Toronto crowd. It wouldn’t make much sense for Flair to lose. She’s active, she’s younger, stronger and bigger. But it’s in Toronto, Trish’s hometown and I think she finds a way to win.
Ryan’s Pick: Trish Stratus
Universal Championship Match
The reigning, defending, undisputed, heavyweight, universal champion Brock Lesnar will put the title on the line against a banged up and beat up Seth Rollins. I am not sure what to expect in this one, because Rollins has guaranteed a win, but he’s in no condition to wrestle. I think WWE is moving on from Rollins as champion and I look for a quick but good match, and a Lesnar victory.
Ryan’s Pick: Brock Lesnar
Those are my predictions for TakeOver and Summerslam. Be sure to check out the reviews, Sunday and Monday morning and as always thanks for checking out GoHomePWB.com, the people’s wrestling blog!
